The Mission

Yachts for Science is a not-for-profit platform founded in 2019 by Nekton, BOAT, EYOS, and the Ocean Family Foundation. It connects marine scientists with private vessels, allowing yacht owners and crew to contribute to vital ocean research. By providing access to the sea, yachts can help scientists overcome the logistical and financial challenges of conducting marine research.

Despite the rapid advancement of marine technology, vast areas of the ocean remain unexplored. Many scientists face significant barriers in accessing the sea due to the scarcity and cost of research vessels. Yachts for Science bridges this gap by matching private yachts with research teams to conduct critical marine science and conservation work.

With over 11,000 private yachts over 24 metres worldwide, many of which have downtime between charters or private use, the opportunity to support ocean research is immense. Yachts for Science aims to utilise this capacity, pairing vessels with projects that advance our understanding of marine ecosystems and contribute to global conservation efforts.
