Resources

This course is inspired by Nekton’s First Descent: Seychelles expeditions (2018-2022), which supported the Government of Seychelles in their groundbreaking initiative to protect over 400,000 square kilometres—30% of their ocean territory—and develop their Blue Economy sustainably. These expeditions laid the groundwork for expanding deep-sea research and capacity building in the region.

What You’ll Learn:

The unique ecosystems of the deep sea and how life thrives in these extreme conditions.

The threats facing deep-sea environments and how we can mitigate our impact.

The advanced technologies and techniques used to study the deep sea.

A special focus on the Western Indian Ocean region, aimed at building capacity for deep-sea research in Africa.
